The Benefits of Dehumidifiers
Whole-house dehumidifiers work in tandem with HVAC systems. As air enters an HVAC system through an air intake, it will pass across cooling coils. These coils will condense moisture that’s in the air and collect it. Drier air will then circulate through the rest of the HVAC system and out from the vents into different rooms. Any moisture that a dehumidifier collects will pass through a drain line and away from the home via the drainage system.
Drier indoor air tends to feel cooler than humid air. This means there isn’t a need to run an air conditioning unit as often in the summer to maintain a comfortable home temperature. This extends your HVAC system’s lifespan. Humid air can also hold onto more particulate matter and odors, compromising the quality of indoor air.
A hygrometer can measure the level of humidity throughout the home. Some smart thermostats come with this feature built in. This allows the monitoring of indoor humidity remotely as well as the ability to adjust a dehumidifier as necessary.
Routine maintenance for a whole-house dehumidifier is relatively simple. If there is a filter that is part of the unit, it will require changing or cleaning periodically. Furthermore, your drain line will benefit from a routine inspection. This ensures that no mineral deposits or sediment are interrupting the flow of water through the line.
